Photo of the Day

The merry and horny widow (Maria Grazia Buccella) in FOR LOVE AND GOLD

What's more tempting? Her or that spectacular plate of fruit? Anyway, this film is difficult to categorize. I wouldn't call it a PEPLUM per se but all the genre elements are there. The tone is more art film (comedy art film) than PEPLUM. This film is the direct inspiration for MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, which I already posted about so it's time I posted something from its precursor. It's a gorgeous film to look at and its main star, Vittorio Gassman, is excellent, as usual. Many call it a masterpiece. I only have the Italian version without subs so I can't tell you exactly what I think about it until I understand the dialogue.

The beautiful Maria made a couple of "real" PEPLUM films including FALL OF ROME (aka Centurion).

There's a wild whipping scene in this and I wanted a screenshot from it to be the picture of the day but decided on this one instead. I did upload a gif animation of the whipping scene at my PEPLUM X blog. Check it out: Link (nsfw).
