Paul Richter is Siegfried in the 1924 silent version of DIE NIBELUNGER: SIEGFRIED

Last Saturday I posted an image from the so-called 1967 remake but its predessesor looks more interesting. Directed by cinema genius Fritz Lang. I haven't seen it yet but something tells me this is better than the 1967 version.

I actually prefer this version over ALL later ones. Lang manages to create a truly primal, mythic atmosphere in the scenes with Siegfried riding through the forest (created with huge plaster trees, no less!), slaying Fafnir and meeting Alberich. The version I have is tinted in various monochrome colours (red, blue, etc) for the different scenes, which adds to the fairy tale quality.
Paul Richter is not buff like later peplum heroes, but he certainly is athletic, with a very expressive face. His death scene is quite operatic!

Film historians totally agree on the superiority of Lang's original: Genius will always win out over mere technology!
