Dudley Moore and Richard Pryor in WHOLLY MOSES!

Does anyone remember this film?

I watched it this weekend (or tried to watch it). It's one of those bombs from the late 1970s/early 1980s which probably played for one week in movie theatres before showing up repeatedly on cable. Religious comedies were "in" back then even though calling this a comedy is kinda of a stretch. It's not the disaster that everyone says it is but I didn't laugh once so as a comedy I guess it's a failure.

I remember it only so far as it was the movie that was playing on HBO when I finally got cable
in 1987.

do you have a screen shot available from the movie of
Patti Farinelli(Playboy Playmate Miss December 1981),
as an orgy guest?
she was a knock out.

WHOLLY MOSES was a poor man's LIFE OF BRIAN.

It had no satirical bite or good jokes, for that matter.

While British theatre and film artists were challenging religion in the 1970s, this movie just goes to show that America still had a lot of sacred cows that Hollywood was too chickenshit to slaughter.

America and Hollywood is still like that. YEAR ONE could have challenged religion; it didn't.

But History Channel is now playing an old-fashioned Biblical epic series and Hollywood is glorifying Moses again with Steven Spielberg's GODS AND KINGS.

Give me LIFE OF BRIAN any day.
