Carlo Rambaldi - 1925 - 2012

Special effects genius Carlo Rambaldi died today. He was 86 years old. Carlo is most famous for creating E.T. (above) but he started in PEPLUM films back in the day and showed his imagination. He's definitely one of a kind. His Medusa (below) from PERSEUS THE INVINCIBLE will always be one of my favorite creatures ever.

Above and below: from PERSEUS THE INVINCIBLE

The giant bug from HERCULES AND THE PRINCESS OF TROY

Cyclops from GIANTS OF THESSALY; below credit from same film

I grew up in the 1970's (also I had a subscription to Forry Ackerman's magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland)so I know the
reason Carlo Rambaldi became world famous was when he had constructed
the 45 foot tall moving King Kong
in the 1976 remake. All the newspapers were writing about it when the movie was still being made, even tho it only appeared in the movie briefly.
