I recently revisited SAMSON AND HIS MIGHTY CHALLENGE and found it quite entertaining. Its lighthearted spoofing of the genre is, I think, largely misunderstood by fans. By the time of this film's release in 1965, it was inevitable that these movies would take on a blatantly comedic approach. I've never minded it; as early as 1960 the genre gave us one of the best silly sword and sandal entries with COLOSSUS AND THE AMAZON QUEEN. Likewise, SAMSON AND HIS MIGHTY CHALLENGE is pure tongue-in-cheek, with handsome production values (if you're lucky enough to see it properly formatted) and an offbeat music score. All in all, it's a fun as well as funny late peplum.
