I think the Blu-ray of this film is probably an accurate representation of the U.S. theatrical release of the film. I have a European DVD under the Hercules Conquers Atlantis title in which the colors are different as is the editing of several sequences. When most of the Peplum films got theatrical releases in the U.S. the transfers were made from what they got which was often second generation. Just compare the German Blu-ray of Colossus of Rhodes with the Warner U.S. release. The first is from the original source and looks much better than the U.S. copy made from second generation elements. Hercules and the Captive Women also suffers from the score having been replaced by library music. I cringe every time the Creature from the Black Lagoon music comes on. That all said, it good to see a decent release of the U.S. version.
On a happier note, the Blu-ray of Messalina has just been announced by Twilight Time. I'm sure this will be taken from the same beautiful transfer as the French Blu-ray which came out several months ago.

The colours of the DVD of the US release match those of the European prints.

Do you mean the DVD issued by RetroMedia?

Yes the one I have is from the HERCULES COLLECTION. Though a bit too dark and saturated, there's no orange tint present.
