By the Gods!

Maciste (Mark Forest) and Bangor (Paul Wynter) are about to spar over in MACISTE - STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD (1961; Mole Men vs the Son of Hercules)

The most muscular team in PEPLUM movie history? There are others team ups, like Kirk Morris and Iloosh Khoshabe in HERCULES, SAMSON AND ULYSSES (1963) but Forest and Wynter beat the Morris and Khoshabe team. Wynter, who won Mr Universe not once but twice, should have had his own Bangor movies. One of the first Fan Dubs I made years ago. Though the original title is MACISTE, Forest is called Majestus (sp) in the English dub.

That's the one thing that's really bothered me about this movie, even the first time I saw it during the early '60s. This was the way they turned his character (Bangor's) into a cowardly and clownish one, when in terms of strength he was practically the match of Maciste, as the wrestling match proved. I seriously doubt that even Machiste could have pulled that giant column down at the end all by himself. He was already giving the effort all that he had even with Bangor's help. But I guess back then the black guy had to be portrayed as inferior, no matter what country you were in.

I don't read too much into it. Maciste is used to adventures. Not Bangor. Also Bangor started weak but by the end he was strong and lead the crowd of slave to revolt.
