I haven't gotten into Blu-rays yet. I'm sort of hesitant regarding HD versions of older movies, where the details are now clearer than they were ever meant to be, at least when the movies being shown in a theatre. I've read reviews of Japanese Kaiju movies where the previously invisible wires holding the monsters aloft are now plainly seen, as well as the sets of a John Wayne Western looking very crudely painted and fake indeed. It'd be interesting to hear where "The Thief of Baghdad" falls in that regard.

I disagree with this. The resolution of film has always been high and so these HD versions are just closer to what they're supposed to look like than anything else. Some productions made sure everything looked good, with whatever they had. In the case of THIEF OF BAGHDAD, the HD hasn't made the production look cheap. In fact, it makes it look quite the opposite. I love Japanese monster movies and remember seeing them on the big screen when I was a kid. A local cinema played all these movies and I could see all the strings and tricks on screen even back then.
