By the Gods!

Antonella Lualdi and Pedro Armendáriz in THE TITANS (1962; aka My Son the Hero)

I finally got a HD copy of this film. The good thing, when the image is good, it's good. Bad thing: the image is often too dark. I didn't tweak the screenshots in Photoshop (or removed the RAI logo) just to show you how dark it is. I've seen this a lot with PEPLUM movies with new transfers. It drives me crazy.

Now this entire scene, which lasts nearly 3 minutes, is NOT in the English version or even the official French DVD, which was the best copy out there until now. In fact, the actor below is Antonio Molino Rojo, who's not even credited anywhere for this movie. Rojo was a bad guy in GLADIATORS 7 (1962...more on this next week). Now, for those who follow this blog since the start, you know that I'm not a big fan of this film even if everyone else seems to love it. Does this scene add anything? It does. But it doesn't help with the movie's other annoying inconsistencies/aspects.

My memory of this film is that it is an example of why Peplum comedy is generally an unsuccessful genre.

NERO's MISTRESS and TWO NIGHT WITH CLEOPATRA work better as comedies. At least Bardot and Loren provide some attractive eye candy.

Count me in as a fan of this one. But only the version that's dubbed in English. Netflix, back when they were showing movies older than the current decade, used to have the dubbed version.

This movie was also titled as "Sons of Thunder". I've watched this movie as a kid and remember it under the said title.
