Screenshots taken from a HD copy. I have multiple copies of this, including a pretty good one but it's not as sharp as this copy. Hopefully, I'll come across it one day. Anyway, even in HD, the FXs still hold up beautifully. The special effects and visual effects are credited to Mario Bava but no mention of matte paintings. Regardless, if it's Mario or someone else, they did a great job with the paintings.

Fantastic...thanks for sharing. I love these screen grabs. It is a very creative way to make the shots more awe inspiring because the effects are used to add a sense of visual depth to the framing. The second one with the statue is my favorite.
