By the Gods!

Jany Clair and Mila Kacic look over a wounded soldier in 79 AD: THE DESTRUCTION OF HERCULANEUM (1962)

Jany's scenes on most DVD releases were nearly entirely cut. Because of these extensive cuts, this particular scene, which happens in the middle of the film, is not attached to anything before or after. Cinematic confusion. The uncut version is the only version worth watching. I swear that Japanese artists used Jany's looks for their Anime. She looks like an Anime character come to life.

Which DVD version is the most complete?

The Italian copy I have is uncut. I don't know its source. I traded it with someone. I don't know if it was from a DVD. The Sinister Cinema DVD is also complete but the image is murky and it's not in widescreen. It does have more information at the bottom and top of the image and in one scene there's a 'dot' that was added to block some accidental nudity from Brad. The French and Spanish DVDs are cut. Nearly 15 minutes cut.

I just checked and unfortunately there is no Italian commercial DVD. I have the Spanish DVD, which has a rather soft image and runs 95 minutes, and the German DVD, which is has better image quality but only runs 88 minutes. I see the original Italian version is 105 minutes. What was the accidental nudity?

The Sinister Cinema version is 111 minutes long. This version is at 24fps. The Italian one I have is at 108 minutes but it's in PAL format, which means it's at 25fps. The correct time is the SC one.

The accidental nudity is blocked with a dot but it's obvious there was some sort of wardrobe malfunction and Brad's goods needed to be censored. I'll cover this subject next week.

I was going by the running time given for the Italian version in the Il Grande Libro di Ercole book which is obviously wrong. Running times are so hard to pin down sometimes. I remember having the Sinister Cinema VHS tape many years ago. Despite the longer length, I find it difficult to watch these films when they are pan and scan. I will sacrifice the additional footage to see a good looking widescreen transfer.
