By the Gods!

Rex Ingram is the genie in THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1940)

Great fantasy which was, in part, responsible for the glut of Arabian adventures of the 1940s, which today, in our PC world, might not seem ok but I love them nonetheless. Nice miniature set.

This is one of my all-time favourite films! I was lucky enough to first see it at a very tender age, and the magic of it stuck with me for life.
The world of these Hollywood Arabian fairy tale epics is rooted in the "One Thousand and One Nights" collection of tales, and those tales, with their free-spirited heroines and care-free erotisicm, also have very little in common with the fundamentalist Middle East of today.
I think these films are in every way a reflection of a better age.

These are all well and good, but still a majority of us loved to see these great builders wrestle each other...alas that was not to be ..they'd always have a great hero go up against a real porker! Or they'd have two great builders ,but have them do a dull boxing match..no real match of great muscle and strength as in wrestling!
