By the Gods!

Robert Blood (Sean Flynn) is held by two shipmates while Abby (Alessandra Panaro) tries to protect him from more flogging in SON OF CAPTAIN BLOOD

One of three PEPLUM films Sean made in Europe. He also made other films before dying tragically in 1971. This was supposed to have been a big break for Sean and it was released by Paramount but critics destroyed the film upon its release and well Sean's acting career was limited. Alessandra, a PEPLUM regular, has a sizeable role in this.

Admittedly this pirate flick is worth only a B minus at most. Nevertheless, it is no worse than a lot of second tier pirate movies.

The pirate genre - like the Arabian Nights one - is inherently campy. Indeed, their level of fantasy is often part of the fun.

Critics might have been too harsh on "Son of Captain Blood" because Sean's father Errol was so much better in "Captain Blood (1935)."

I saw this in the movies when it was released in US, and I enjoyed it. I have seen it only once since the 60's, and I can't seem to find anything on this movie. If you can help I would appreciate it.
