I've never seen helmets like these in other PEPLUM films. I've seen them with metal ornaments but not this thick. I wonder if they're historically accurate.
There are a few weird-looking things in this movie, including Burton himself! I think these helmets are pure Hollywood wardrobe fantasy, though based on the look of helmets on antique statues.

Yes, the designer based those helmets on old statues, not realizing that those statues were stylized.
