Photo of the Day

Gordon Scott in MACISTE AT THE COURT OF THE GREAT KHAN (aka Samson and the 7 miracles of the World). This scene is cut from the US version. In fact, well over 15 minutes was cut from the original Riccardo Freda directed version. A good 10 minutes was cut from the beginning alone. I just saw this version and it almost feels like a totally different film. The carefully paced direction was gutted and the US version basically looks like a highlights reel.

I always thought that this movie seemed to be missing some key elements to it. I first saw it when it was shown in theaters and come to think of it this was part of a double feature. Back in the late 50's and 60's this was common to show 2 movies plus a cartoon and previews to fit in a 3 hour time span.

It is a choppy film as the US version. Seeing it in its original state is odd. But you're lucky to have seen these films on the big screen. Fun stuff.

Another favorite! Scott still looks very Tarzan-like in this one. Just great fun.

Scott himself complained that this film and dual of the titans were both too cut to make sense in their U.S. versions.
