This is because Ancient Egypt is so culturally remote from us.<br /><br />"The Egyptian" is an example of a film set in Ancient Egypt with lavish production values which is only modestly successful.<br /><br />The various "Cleopatra" films (especially DeMille's 1934 masterpiece) center on Greeks and Romans.
