Photo of the Day

Dionysus (Pierre Brice) is confronted by Pentheus (Alberto Lupo) in THE BACCHANTES

The lighting in this shot is perfect. I didn't retouch the image. The writing during this entire scene is excellent.

It's odd how Dionysus has been portrayed in movies and popular culture. I already posted about this (link) but I think it's due for an update. And why was Dionysus such an important god in Greek mythology?

Film directed by Giorgio Ferroni who also directed the excellent THE TROJAN HORSE with Steve Reeves amongst other great PEPLUM films. I'll write a review of this film soon.

I'm off tomorrow (it's my birthday) so back on Thursday!

Happy birthday.

Today's my name day. If I were Russian (and maybe also Greek), this would be even bigger than my b'day.

A beautiful movie in the Italian widescreen -- available from amazon.it -- but for English we are cursed with a disgusting, VHS-artifact impacted copy off TV with English subtitles.

IMHO the best dance scenes in entire genre, keyed by Tania Elg. Even the credits appear against dance among Greek ruins. I don't know who is more beautiful here, Tania or Alessandra.

Great scenes (painted women beating drums and the initiation) in THE CONQUEST OF MYCENAE were lifted from this one ... MYCENAE conveniently uses the same stars in added scenes (Alessandra Panero as Manto/Medea, and Nerio Bernardi as the High Priest).

Happy [belated] Birthday!

Thanks Orsh, gpm and Brrrodie

Yes, I'm 39! Ah!

Both are beautiful in their own way but Alessandra is especially pretty.

I've made a Fan Dub of THE BACCHANTES and I'll be uploading it on Youtube...if Youtube allows me, of course.
