Photo of the Day

The Paul twin brothers from THE BARBARIANS (1987)

Who's David and who's Peter?

As trashy as these films were back in the 1980s it's sorta sad we don't see these kind of over-the-top
b-movies anymore.

I was curious to know,
what was the last peplum
movie that was made
during the peplum era,
or the last one to get distributed
in America?
I think the Kung Fu/Chop-Socky
movies from around 1973
had taken over the vacuum
in the intervining years
between the two genres.
As far as the Sword&Sworcery movie genre.
One of the earliest one I remeber seeing at the drive-in was a British made movie called
HAWK THE SLAYER(1980)
starring Jack Palance.

I think I will try to answer my own question.
As far as the last peplum movie
to have been released was
SAMSON AND THE MIGHTY CHALLENGE
starring Alan Steele.
It was made in Italy in 1964 but played the Drive-Ins here in America
in 1966-1967.

I remember reading in a book that
the last officail peplum movie to have been released at least in America was Hercules,Samson&Ulysses.
starring Kirk Morris
Which was made in 1963 and released
in the USA May 1965.
Along with the Spaghetti westerns,
I think the new revised big budgeted Tarzan movies that were released in beginning in 1966
TARZAN AND THE VALLEY OF GOLD,
TARZAN AND THE GREAT RIVER,TARZAN AND THE JUNGLE BOY all starring Mike Henry(who would have been great in peplum movies, hastened their end too).
