PEPLUM wave: RIP?

Hollywood experts are touting JOHN CARTER as one of the biggest box office flops in history!

After the box office failure of CONAN, IMMORTALS started strong but then quickly disappeared from screens and now this I don't think the genre, which roared back into action with GLADIATOR and 300,  can sustain any more flops if it wants to stay alive.

I think a lot of people like myself are turned off by all that CGI. Movie Fanfare (Movies Unlimited) weekly email news letter which I receive and usually comment to says that many people long for the days when movie making was more simple and not full of tons of special effects. Some examples used that people loved was the Sinbad Movies by Ray Harryhausen and especially JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS People also like the epics from the 40's, 50's, & 60's more then anything turned out today with over the top budgets. JOHN CARTER takes place on Mars not Earth, many of these movies are too far fetched and I wish that they would back to basics and make some good awesome and fun simple PEPS like the 50's & 60's.

I just read today that John Carter is now THE biggest flop in film history monetarily, losing more than 200 million for Disney, who almost made that record last year when Mars Needs Moms proved unpopular. Truly, I think that Disney needs to stay home.
