I'm glad you brought this up. First time I saw this movie FORBIDDEN PLANET came to mind. Since I have both movies I did make a comparison and I came to the conclusion that the special effects department to save time and (very noticeable in this below B movie) money copied the creature.

In this movie the used stock footage from King Kong in the final battle. It is quite weird.
